Voorzetsels (preposition):
a VOORZETSEL (preposition) shows the relation between one word and the other words in a sentence.
Wanneer gebruik je een voorzetsel? (When to use a preposition)

Prepositions can be used (random examples):

  • To give a location:
    • Ik sta voor het huis. (I’m standing in front of the house)
    • Hij is in het huis. (He is in the house)
    • Hij zit verstopt achter de boom. ( He is hidden behind the tree )

 

  • To give a time-period:
    • Ik ben hier sinds vorige week. ( I’m here since last week )
    • Zij blijft hier tot morgen. ( She is staying until tomorrow )
    • Hij begint per direct OR Hij verzend het pakket per koerier
      (He starts right now) or (He’s sending the package by courier)

 

  • To describe a connection :
    • Ik ga met mijn vriend naar de winkel. (I’m going to the mall with my friend)
    • Deze auto is van mij. (This car is mine)
    • Ik ga liever zonder haar. ( I rather go without her)
